Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Spode Camilla Pink Earthenware 7-Ounce Teacup and SaucerCustomer Review: An Elegant Vessel Summary: 5 Stars
The picture and description of this product does it much justice. I was delighted upon first handling of this set. The floral decoration is both intricate and exquisite. I especially admire the somewhat wide and shallow shape of the seven ounce cup. Specific beveridges deserve a proper vessel. This cup and saucer has such nuance that having a cup of tea becomes a pleasant event. The floral decoration at the bottom of the cup while beautifully done still allows sufficient plain white backdrop allowing one to note the coloration and strength of the tea of the moment. The edge of the saucer is nicely rolled upward allowing one to gain an immediate positive grip using one hand to lift the set. The cup fits securely within the saucer allowing confident transport. The overall balance and design allows one to sit and hold the set comfortably when there isn't a nearby table to rest the set between sips. I love the solid clanking sound when the two pieces are joined. The sound announces quality. The price is very reasonable given the quality. This set is truly heirloom class.
Description of Spode Camilla Pink Earthenware 7-Ounce Teacup and SaucerThe Camilla pattern, first introduced in 1833, is named after the tea plant, Camilla Sinensis. It has a Victorian cranberry design on a classic white body. The Bread and Butter Plate can be used for serving bread or rolls, canapes, hors d'oeuvres or sweets. Made of high quality earthenware. Tea takes on all the grace and style of a bygone era when sipped from the scalloped rim of this Camilla teacup from Spode. Perfectly balanced when held by its dainty one-finger handle, the teacup holds seven ounces of a favorite Earl Grey or Darjeeling tea. The low, broad cup is banded inside and out with an intricate floral pattern shaded for depth. A flowering spray of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, the pattern namesake, adorns the white center of the cup and the matching six-inch saucer. An enduring classic introduced by Spode in 1833, Camilla still retains the sensibility of the Victorian era. Crafted in England of Spode's highest quality earthenware known as Imperialware, the cup and saucer are flawlessly smooth to the touch and exceptionally strong, being safe for both the dishwasher and microwave. The set accessorizes a full line of Camilla dinnerware available in either pale blue or dark pink blending into red, and is sure to become a family heirloom. --Ann Bieri
